I arrived late yesterday and had dinner with the other jury members at the Carlton. We had monkfish, which I had never had before, but have certainly seen before. Despite it's horrific appearance, it was quite tasty.
I was also reminded of a few things: Most of Europe still smokes (not sure why); everyone outside the U.S. loves soccer and the Euro 2008 is going on now (think World Series for Soccer); and non-Americans hold a lot of sterotypes of Americans. They are also fascinated by the upcoming election and are quite tuned-in to U.S. politics. I can name maybe 4 heads of state outside the U.S. (Thus proving one of their stereotypes that we are ethno-centric.)
Today the judging of the Cannes Lions began which was quite fun. Note the lovely photo taken outside the Palais des Festivals where we are judging. I've had about 7 hours of sleep in the past 72 hours - so tonight I am heading to bed early!
